New Braunfels driveways sit on some of the trickiest ground in Greater San Antonio, and the weather doesn't make it easier. Your driveway is either built on clay that heaves and settles with every wet-then-dry cycle, or on thin Hill Country limestone with caliche underneath, where the real challenge is getting a solid base to hold up under Texas heat and flash-flood storms.
San Antonio Asphalt Paving has been serving New Braunfels and the surrounding areas since 2012. We know the soil here, we know what fails and why, and we know how to build a driveway that stays put. If your asphalt is cracking, rutting, or draining water toward your garage instead of away from it, we can tell you whether a patch will hold or whether your money belongs in a resurfacing or a full replacement. We're a local shop with a local address and local trucks, and we price the work honestly, not with fear.
Asphalt Paving in New Braunfels (78130)
New Braunfels splits along a line that runs through Comal County. The older core of town sits on clay, the same expansive Blackland Prairie soil that causes trouble all across south-central Texas. After a heavy rain, that clay takes on water, swells, and puts pressure on anything sitting on top of it. Then during a dry spell, it shrinks back down and opens cracks straight through a driveway's base. If the original driveway was poured on poor preparation, those cracks get worse every year.
The newer subdivisions north and west of town are built on thinner limestone and caliche over bedrock. That ground doesn't move the way clay does, but it's shallow, and it demands a properly compacted aggregate base to hold up a new driveway. Summer temperatures here regularly hit triple digits, and that heat softens asphalt enough for loaded traffic to rut it if the base wasn't built right. When a thunderstorm comes through, the pitch of your driveway has to shed water fast, or it pools and breaks down the surface.
Our team has been paving in New Braunfels and across the San Antonio area for over a decade. We understand both kinds of ground, we know how to build a base that holds, and we know how to pitch a driveway so the water leaves instead of staying. We work with written estimates and tonnage specifications so you know exactly what you're getting.

How a Job Works in New Braunfels
We start with a free on-site visit. We'll walk your driveway or lot, measure it, look at the existing pavement and the grade, check how water is draining, and talk through what you're seeing. If you've got cracks, we'll tell you whether they're surface checking or whether the base is moving. If water is running the wrong way, we'll show you. Then we'll give you a written estimate with the square footage, the work scope, and the tonnage of material we'll use.
When we schedule the job, we'll talk through any HOA approval you might need (many New Braunfels subdivisions have architectural rules for driveway work), and if your driveway apron touches the street or a right-of-way, we'll help you understand what the city requires. Our crews will show up on time, do the work clean, and leave your property swept and ready. We're fully insured with general liability and workers' compensation, so you're protected if anything goes wrong.
The whole process from estimate to finished driveway usually takes a few weeks. We'll give you a timeline when we schedule, and we'll let you know when to keep vehicles off the new asphalt while it cures (typically 48 to 72 hours in good weather, longer if it's cool or damp).
Driveway paving in New Braunfels typically runs from $6 per square foot on up, depending on the size of the job, the condition of the subgrade, and how thick we need to build the base. A standard two-car driveway (about 500 to 600 square feet) usually falls in the $3,500 to $4,500 range for new asphalt over a properly prepared base. If you've got an existing driveway that's still sound underneath but the surface is worn, resurfacing (an overlay) runs from $4 per square foot and up. Repair work like pothole patching starts at $450, but if your driveway is more than 30 to 40 percent failed with alligator cracking, patching throws money away and resurfacing or replacement is the better choice. Parking lot work, gravel driveways, tar and chip, and driveway extensions all have different costs based on scope. The real answer always comes from a site visit, because the subgrade condition, access for our equipment, and the thickness we need to build are different on every job.
